Prebiotics – For Naturally Balanced Skin
The human skin microbiome consists of a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and mites that live on the skin surface. The skin microbiome plays an important role in protecting against harmful microorganisms, supporting the immune system, and contributing to skin health. In selected lavera products, prebiotics can help support the natural microbiome.

Our prebiotic ingredients have been carefully selected to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and support a healthy skin microbiome:
Indian Prickly Pear Extract
The prickly pear is a species from the cactus family. With its nutrient-rich composition, this extract promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria and maintains balance within the bacterial community.
Lactobacillus Ferment
Derived from the fermentation of Lactobacillus bacteria, this ingredient offers many positive effects in skincare. It strengthens the skin microbiome by displacing harmful bacteria with antimicrobial peptides, creating a healthy, balanced skin microbiome. It regulates skin moisture and soothes irritated and reddened skin. Additionally, it promotes skin renewal, which can improve skin texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Organic Jerusalem Artichoke Extract
This well-known root vegetable arrived in Europe in the 17th century and was popular as a food until it was replaced by the potato in the 19th century. Native to North America, the plant can grow up to 3 meters tall and is now also cultivated in parts of Germany. The tubers are irregularly shaped, with white flesh and a brown-yellow to red-violet skin. Rich in inulin and oligofructose, this extract supports the growth of beneficial bacteria and helps maintain the balance of the skin flora.
Ginger & Organic Green Tea Extract
Ginger can have positive effects on the human microbiome. It contains prebiotic fibers that can promote the growth of good bacteria. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can inhibit the spread of pathogenic bacteria on the skin. Organic green tea also has anti-inflammatory effects and can reduce irritation and redness, helping the skin repair itself. For more information, see: Ginger, Organic Green Tea.
