UV rays are also present in shady places. So the same thing applies here: Use a sunscreen! Avoid the midday sun and never expose babies and children to direct sunlight.
Besides a high SPF sunscreen product, babies and children should also wear suitable protective clothing to guard against dangerous sunlight, especially on the head and upper body.
Unlike synthetic sunscreens, our mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin, reflecting UV rays like a mirror. To maintain good sun protection, reapply your lavera sunscreen generously and frequently, especially after swimming, towel drying or sweating. Please note that repeated application does not prolong the protective effect of the product, but only maintains it.

The mineral sun protection filter is developed by lavera itself. The formulations are routinely improved and adapted according to the latest research. The lavera sunscreen products use zinc oxide for protection. The principle is simple and has been taken from nature. Just like an elephant throws sand - i.e. minerals - over its skin to protect it from UV rays, the sun protection factors lie on the skin and reflect the sun's rays.
Synthetic sun protection & sun filter: They contain synthetic factors like oxybenzone, octinoxate, phenylbezimidazoles. These bond with the oils in the skin and dissipate the heat energy through the skin.

Did you know that since January 2021, sunscreens containing the UV filters octinoxate and oxybenzone have been banned in Hawaii under the Hawaiian Reef Law? These synthetic UV filters are suspected not only of causing allergic reactions in humans but also of harming the environment. Hawaii decided back in 2018 that these UV filters would no longer be allowed on the picturesque beaches of the island group as of January 1, 2021.
According to the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), around 14,000 tons of sunscreen end up in the world's oceans each year. The effects are particularly noticeable at heavily visited beaches. To avoid the burden on the oceans caused by these two synthetic UV filters, we recommend using sun protection products with mineral UV filters.
For the sake of the environment, our sun protection products are made with purely mineral UV filters and have been for more than 30 years. This makes them compliant with the Hawaii Reef Act.

Discover all lavera self-tanning products
Self-tanning products do not offer any protection against UV radiation.
Has the intensity of the tan not turned out as you imagined? There may be several reasons for this. Your skin tan from our self-tanning products depends on your individual skin type and the condition of your skin - the tan tone is therefore slightly different for everyone. This means that your skin may only react to the natural tanning ingredients to a limited extent.
- Cleanse your skin well before applying lavera self-tanners. Gentle exfoliation is also helpful as it can remove old skin cells and ensure an even complexion.
- Before applying lavera self-tanning cream for the face, you should refrain from applying a day cream beforehand. Although this provides your skin with soothing care, the thin protective film can impair the reaction with the amino acids in the skin and reduce the even self-tanning effect.
- You should also make sure that you blend the lavera self-tanning cream well at the hairline, eyebrows, edges of the face and towards the décolleté. This will avoid unsightly edges.
- Only apply moderately to the joints and feet to avoid discolouration.
- It is advisable to spread the product lightly over these critical areas when applying to the arms and legs. You can also use a cosmetic tissue for this.
- Only use a small amount of lavera self-tanning cream and spread it over your skin in circular motions.
- Make sure that you wash your hands and nails thoroughly after applying lavera self-tanning products.
